ARLINGTON, Texas -- Drew Smyly was well on the way to his first win since joining the Tampa Bay Rays in the trade that cost them David Price. Zapatillas Nike Mujer Baratas . The left-hander wanted to get it without allowing any runs, and he did thanks to a little help. Smyly allowed three hits and struck out the final batter he faced in his only shaky inning, Matt Joyce had a two-run single and the Rays beat the Texas Rangers 7-0 on Monday night. Smyly struck out nine in a career-high 7 2-3 innings to beat the Rangers for the second time this season. The left-hander hasnt allowed Texas an earned run in three appearances, including a start and a relief outing when he was still with Detroit. Smyly (7-10), who lost at Oakland five days after the Price deal at the non-waiver trading deadline July 31, got Shin-Soo Choo swinging for the second out with runners at second and third in the eighth. "He was so good," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He was in command of everything. He was still throwing 92 when he punched out Choo at the end." Reliever Joel Peralta preserved the shutout by getting Jim Adduci on a bases-loaded grounder. Before Adrian Beltres line-drive single to left centre in the seventh inning, the only hit for the Rangers was a bunt by Daniel Robertson in the third. Rougned Odor had a bloop double off Smyly in the eighth. "It was the longest game of my career, so it might have been my best," Smyly said. "Some days youre really feeling it." Colby Lewis (8-9) couldnt build on the momentum of his second career shutout, giving up five runs in five innings. Just two of the runs were earned because Tampa Bays three-run second inning was sparked by the Texas right-handers throwing error trying to get Cole Figueroa at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Curt Casali. Lewis also had four walks and hit a batter. "Beat myself, thats all there is to it," Lewis said. "That can be your guys quote. I really dont have much more than that." Lewis had a chance to escape the second with a 1-0 deficit before Joyces two-out, bases-loaded hit for a 3-0 lead. The sharp single to right field came after Joyce ripped a line drive that was just foul and struck a security guard in the face. The man was bleeding as he was led off the field. "Colby threw some tough pitches," said Joyce, who walked twice and was hit by a pitch. "I fought off a tough one. Then I finally got one I could handle." SHARING THE WEALTH Figueroa, Desmond Jennings, Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria each had a run-scoring hit for Tampa Bay. Figueroa also had a double and scored twice. Zobrist was the other Tampa player with two hits and has reached base 16 times in 25 plate appearances over five games. TIMES HAVE CHANGED Tampa Bay played its first game at the Rangers since beating them 5-2 in a playoff for the second wild-card spot last season. That was after Texas beat the Rays in AL Division Series in 2010 and 2011 on the way to the first two World Series appearances for the franchise. Now the Rays are on the fringe of the wild-card race and the Rangers are 26 games under .500. TRAINERS ROOM Rays: RF Kevin Kiermaier left the game in the seventh inning with tightness in his lower back. The move was precautionary. Wil Myers, on the disabled list since June 1 because of a fractured right wrist, played right field Monday night on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham. Rangers: RF Alex Rios was out after aggravating his sprained right ankle with a slide into home Sunday against Houston. The MRI revealed no significant damage and he could return Tuesday night. Rios originally injured the ankle July 19 at Toronto. ON DECK Rays RHP Jeremy Hellickson (1-1, 2.61) makes his fourth start since returning from right elbow surgery. Tampas oldest starting pitcher at 27 years, 126 days, Hellickson is 0-3 with a 5.03 ERA against the Rangers. Texas RHP Nick Tepesch (4-7, 4.46) faces the Rays for the first time since beating them in his major league debut last season. Air Max Baratas Hombre . CSKA received the heavier punishment of playing its next European home game behind closed doors, after its supporters displayed racist and far-right symbols in the Czech Republic during a 2-1 loss to Viktoria Plzen on Dec. The 29-year-old left fielder struggled all season with knee and hamstring problems. Cabrera was first on the disabled list from June 27-July 20 with tendinitis in his left knee.PITTSBURGH -- LeVeon Bells rehab from a sprained foot includes an exercise that requires the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back to pick up marbles with his toes. "Nothing crazy," Bell said with a laugh. And, apparently, nothing serious either. While Bell will sit out Saturday nights exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a sprained right foot, the second-round pick isnt worried about the injury extending well into the regular season. "Ive already been healing real quick," Bell said Thursday. "As long as the process keeps going the way it is, I should be back pretty quick." Coach Mike Tomlin declined to put an exact timetable on Bells return but pointed to the fact surgery will not be required as an encouraging sign. Less than 72 hours after going down in the first quarter of a 24-13 loss to Washington, Bell can already put weight on it, though he did wear a walking boot into the locker room as a precaution. It beats the cast being worn by tight end Matt Spaeth, who is dealing with a more significant version of the same injury. Spaeth is out at least two months after tearing the Lisfranc ligament in his left foot. There are no such concerns for Bell, though the 48th overall pick in the draft is a bit mystified about his bumpy training camp. The 21-year-old was a workhorse last fall at Michigan State, leading the nation with 383 carries. His durability is one of the main reasons the Steelers drafted him as the heir apparent to replace departed Rashard Mendenhall. Instead hell watch from the sidelines for the second time in three weeks while Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman attempt to hold onto the starting job, at least temporarily. "It gets a little frustrating at times," Bell said. "Its something Im faced with. Ill fight through it." Just dont expect him to race through it. Though Tomlin called all signs around Bells prognosis "positive" hes not going to rush Bell out onto the field just to do it. "We dont have a long-range schedule," Tomlin said. "At this point, well treat it conservatively with rehabilitation." Its the correct diagnosis, even if its not one Bell wants to hear. He averaged more than 30 touches a game during his last two seasons at Michigan State, touching the ball an average of 23 times a game. Outside of the usual aches and pains, hhes never had so much as an ingrown toenail. Zapatillas Baratas. Now hes dealing with his third issues in as many weeks. He skipped the preseason opener against the New York Giants as a precaution after tweaking his left knee in practice. He aggravated the injury in practice but recovered in time to make his professional debut. It was one that turned into little more than an extended cameo. Bell carried four times for nine yards while working with the first team, his night ending shortly after he felt an opponent fall onto his leg while he was trying to push the pile forward. Bell remained in for one more play before heading to the sideline. When he took his cleats off, he couldnt even put his foot on the ground. An MRI revealed the sprain, though the Steelers sought out a second opinion to confirm that he wouldnt need surgery. "It was great news," Bell said. And a blessing of sorts. While stressing the knee was good enough to play against the Redskins, the downtime required by the sprained foot means the knee will be "100 per cent" whenever Bell is back on the practice field. "Its a long season," Bell said. "I would like to come back to where I can actually be able to play and not think about it. I want to make sure everythings comfortable so I can play the way I want to play." Dwyer, who ran for 68 yards on Monday night, will likely start against the Chiefs. Tomlin also held out hope that Isaac Redman will be ready to go after missing a week due to a stinger. The same goes for LaRod Stephens-Howling and the mild knee sprain that kept him out versus Washington. Whoever is in the backfield will be charged with getting the first team into the end zone. It hasnt happened yet, though Tomlin expects the starters to play a half -- if not more -- when Kansas City visits. ---- NOTES: Tight end Heath Miller, rehabbing from left knee surgery, remained noncommittal about when hell be able to return. Miller is currently on the physically unable to perform list but has shown significant progress during camp. ... CB Cortez Allen practiced on Thursday as he recovers from minor knee surgery. Allen said he remains "day to day," and isnt sure hell play on Saturday. Allen, slated to be the starting cornerback across from Ike Taylor, said his focus is being ready for the season opener against Tennessee Sept. 8. ' ' '
