Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork. Cobi Jones Jersey .com) - Tomas Tatar scored twice as the Detroit Red Wings offense came alive by scoring five unanswered goals to end a six-game slump with a 6-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Henrik Zetterberg and Danny DeKeyser each finished with a goal and assist, Stephen Weiss and Johan Franzen also scored and Gustav Nyquist supplied three assists for the Red Wings, who matched their total goal output over their losing streak. Detroits power-play unit converted on 4-of-6 opportunities and Petr Mrazek stopped 13-of-16 shots in the win. We are happy our power play is working now, said Tatar. Like I said, just shoot from everywhere, just try and eventually the puck will go in. Nicolas Deslauriers, Chris Stewart and Andre Benoit all lit the lamp for Buffalo, which dropped its fourth straight game. Youre playing a good team like Detroit, Sabres head coach Ted Nolan said. You have a lead, you take a bad penalty and woke them up. The rest is history. Michal Neuvirth allowed all six goals on 39 shots in defeat. Trailing 3-1, DeKeysers wrister from the left circle with 2:06 to play in the second period sparked Detroits furious comeback. Zetterberg tied the game just under five minutes into the final stanza by cycling towards the high slot and rifling the puck into the back of the net. On the power play, Tatar received and blasted DeKeysers feed at the right circle on one knee to give Detroit a 4-3 lead with 8:20 to play. Franzen celebrated his 35th birthday by firing a shot past a screened Neuvirth with 5:54 to play to give the Red Wings a two-goal cushion. Tatar scored on the man advantage once again to cap the scoring with 2:12 to go. Early in the contest, Drew Stafford whipped the puck toward the slot from below the goal line. The puck deflected off Deslauriers and into the net at 2:36. The goal was originally waved off but was ruled to be a good goal following replay review. The Red Wings drew even on the power play as Nyquist sent a cross-ice pass to Jakub Kindl at the left circle. Kindl immediately dished the puck to Weiss, who finished off the tic-tac-toe play with a wrister from the right side of the net at 10:50 of the first. Stewart put Buffalo back in front less than three minutes later. Cody Hodgson raced up the left side and sent a slick backhander pass over to Stewart, who tapped the puck past a sliding Mrazek for a 2-1 game. Benoit increased the Sabres lead to 3-1 as he broke into the Detroit zone on a 2-on-0 with Brian Flynn and beat Mrazek blocker side for a short-handed goal nine minutes into the middle stanza. Game Notes The win gave Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock sole possession of 17th place in NHL history with 502 wins ... Weiss returned from a shoulder injury after a four-game absence ... Buffalo forward Joel Armia, who was recalled from Rochester (AHL) prior to the game, made his NHL debut ... Sabres captain Brian Gionta did not play due to an upper-body injury sustained in Sundays 4-3 overtime loss to Boston ... Detroit improved to 13-1-2 over its last 16 games against Buffalo. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a one-year contract. The Colorado Avalanche may have lost one of the premier free agents, centre Paul Stastny, but recovered somewhat by bringing in the top free agent goal-scorer. Numbers Game looks into the deal for Jarome Iginla The Avalanche Get: RW Jarome Iginla. Iginla, 37, scored 30 goals last season, just like he has in every full season since 2000-2001, while playing for the Boston Bruins. The Bruins ran into cap issues that squeezed Iginla out of their plans and opened the door for the Avalanche to improve their forward ranks. Sure, at his age, Iginla has probably lost a step (his 2.68 shots on goal per game last season was his lowest since 1998-1999), but over the past six seasons, he ranks seventh in goals, with 186. He can pull the trigger and thats largely what the Avalanche will need from him. Colorado has lots of young talent up front, guys that the can skate the puck into the offensive zone and it would easy enough to fit Iginla on a line with rising star Nathan MacKinnon and veteran Alex Tanguay, with whom Iginla shared some productive years in Calgary. The issue for the Avalanche is how rapid Iginlas descent might be. Hes been unbelievably durable throughout his career, missing eight games in the past two seasons following five straight seasons without missing a game. But, once more than 1300 NHL games are on the odometer, its difficult to maintain production and its already begun with Iginla, who has averaged under 0.80 points per game in each of the past two years for the first time since 1998-1999. Its evident howw this career arc is playing out. Shaquell Moore Jersey. With 560 career goals, Iginla ranks second among active skaters, behind only Jaromir Jagr now that Teemu Selanne has retired. But, for all the great goal-scorers that have played at age 37 and beyond, its rare to keep scoring 30 goals per season. Since 2000, there have been five forwards, aged 37 or older, to score 30 goals in a season. Theyre Hall of Fame calibre players, like Iginla, so maybe he can get there at least once during the life of this contract, but the odds are that Iginla is going to start falling between 20 and 30 goals because as players get older, even for the great ones, its not as easy to get to the net. Without much room to maneuver under the salary cap, the Bruins may have to look internally to fill the void created by Iginlas departure. Loui Eriksson could move up to join David Krejci and Milan Lucic on the top line and prospects Ryan Spooner and Alexander Khokhlachev are likely to have opportunities to make the team next year. As long as he doesnt drop too precipitously, Iginla can still provide value on the three-year, $16-million contract he received from Colorado, but its likely to be in more of a supporting role because while every career isnt the same, all athletes eventually diminish with age and the Avalanche are looking at those years with Iginla.
